During the week commencing Monday 23rd June, Year 6 pupils, joining Year 7 at Ysgol Afon Wen in September 2025 from across the cluster, will participate in our annual Transition Week. This is an invaluable opportunity for pupils to experience life as Year 7 pupils at Ysgol Afon Wen. The week, which will include many fun learning activities, will also provide a fantastic opportunity to forge new friendships and meet with key staff members who will be supporting them during their time in Year 7 and beyond. The transition week will run from Monday 23.6.25 until Thursday 26.6.25. 

Your child will have the exciting opportunity to take part in taster lessons exploring the theme of ‘What does it Mean to be Human?’. They will take part in activities within each area of our curriculum: Health and Wellbeing, Expressive Arts, Science and Technology, Literacy, Language and Communication, Mathematics and Numeracy and Humanities. 

All pupils will need to bring a packed lunch every day. 

Pupils from Parc Lewis and Ffynnon Taf will be transported by bus from their primary schools at approximately 9.30am and will be return to their primary school for 2.00pm on Monday 23rd, Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th of June. 

If your child attends another school, then please make arrangements to drop off your child here at Ysgol Afon Wen by 9:45am and collect at 1:45pm (Monday 23/6/25 - Wednesday 24/6/25). 

The week will culminate in a showcase of work and a New Intake Parents’ / Families’ Evening which will take place on Thursday, 26th June at 4pm. Therefore, we kindly request that all Year 6 pupils stay with us here at Ysgol Afon Wen until parents and families join us at 4pm in the main Theatre. Your child will then leave with you after this meeting. Please can all pupils bring a small, extra packed tea / snack in this instance. Important information regarding school life at Ysgol Afon Wen and arrangements for the start of Autumn Term 2025 will be shared during this meeting. 

If you are unable to attend this very important meeting, please arrange for your child to be collected at 2.30pm from Ysgol Afon Wen on Thursday, 26th June. No child will be released from our care without a parent / carer attending our school.
