School Development Plan

At Ysgol Afon Wen, we are committed to continuous growth to provide the best education and environment for our students.

What is the School Development Plan?
The School Development Plan is a strategic roadmap that helps us identify key areas for improvement and sets clear goals to ensure academic excellence, wellbeing, care and support, strong community engagement and high standards of leadership to continue to improve the school .

Our Focus Areas:

Inspection Area	IDENTIFIED PRIORITY:
IA1: TEACHING AND LEARNING	Develop reading strategies across the school, ensuring visibility of skills across the curriculum
	Improve Standards in core subjects, particularly Mathematics and Science at Key Stage 4
	Improve MAT provision and challenge top third learners within key outcomes throughout the school
	Embed a high-quality, all-age curriculum with the sequential and systematic development of skills and content
	Improve standards of disadvantaged pupils across all age ranges
IA2: WELLBEING, CARE SUPPORT AND	Improve pupil attendance and punctuality across all age ranges, including disadvantaged pupils
	Reduce rates of persistent absenteeism
	Continue clear anti-bullying strategy across all age ranges
	Ensure all pupils, families and staff feel a real sense of belonging to the school
	Embed high quality behaviour for learning
1A3: LEADING AND IMPROVING	Develop self-evaluation and school improvement processes, focusing on teaching and its impact on pupil learning
	Develop the use of evidence to inform future strategies at faculty level
	Improve the quality of middle leadership
	Develop capacity within ALN department to improve ALN provision and delivery
	Improve leadership capacity within Activate phase
	Establish vertical and horizontal collaborations and strengthen partnership working
