  • Attendance

Excellent school attendance is a priority for everyone at Ysgol Afon Wen.  Pupils are encouraged to take advantage of every teaching and learning opportunity available to them at the school and in order for that to happen it is important they are here.

Good attendance is above 96%.   Attendance under 90% is classed as ‘persistent absence’.  Consistent attendance leads to better progressstronger friendships and better levels of wellbeing.

Parents/Carers must report a reason for their child’s absence.  ‘Unwell’ does not give enough detail and will not be authorised.  Please call 01443 841228 or use Class Charts, to report an absence and to provide the appropriate reason.

We believe that education is a partnership. We will do everything we can to support families to ensure their children attend school, on time. Parents and Carers also have a legal duty to do this. To help, you can:

    • Promote positive attendance at home
    • Always contact us if your child cannot attend school with the reasons why
    • Ensure your child only misses school for reasons that are unavoidable, or agreed and understood by the school. For example, significant illness or an essential medical appointment.
    • Promptly discuss any concerns that may affect future wellbeing or attendance, with the school.

    MISS SCHOOL, MISS OUT!

During your child’s 11 years at school:

    • 80% attendance will mean they miss 3 whole years of school
    • 85% attendance will mean they miss 2 whole years of school
    • 90% attendance will mean they miss 1 whole year of school

If you wish to discuss any attendance related issues, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
