    Careers and Work-Related Experiences (CWRE)

At Ysgol Afon Wen our CWRE provision is committed to nurturing the potential within every pupil and to inspire their success.

At the heart of our CWRE provision is our Triple-A Promise:

    • Activating Learning by engaging pupils in experiences which will help them to understand the skills needed in their future
    • Advancing Curiosity by immersing our pupils in activities which help them to question the world of work and where they will fit into this.
    • Achieving Success by equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to embark on a bright future as part of the workforce in Wales in the future.

YAW's Careers Lead, is supported by our Careers Wales advisor to deliver a comprehensive CWRE programme. Our aim is to support all children at Ysgol Afon Wen in making progress in CWRE and empowering them to make informed choices about their future.

How do we achieve this aim?

    • CWRE is not taught as a standalone subject but is embedded across the three faculties of Creativity, Innovation, and Life.
    • We also hold dedicated CWRE activities outside of the curriculum, such as Careers Week, Work Experience, and Careers Fairs, to further support our whole-school provision.
    • Jenny Rosser, our Careers Wales advisor, works closely with pupils in Years 10 and 11, offering one-on-one Careers Information, Advice, Guidance, and Coaching Interviews. She also conducts career checks, group sessions, and attends Progress Evenings to engage with pupils and parents.
    • Our CWRE programme is particularly tailored to support our ALN pupils in their key transitional years.

At Ysgol Afon Wen, we believe in nurturing the whole child. Our Five Core Values - Happy, Healthy, Ready, Respectful, and Responsible - are at the heart of everything we do. By empowering individuals to reach their full potential through the CWRE provision we offer , we ensure that our community continues to shine brightly, now and in the future.

Where can you find help about your child’s future career path?

You can find more information regarding Careers on the Careers Wales website. Sites like Careerpilot and Talking Futures provide general career information and are useful sites for parents, while Amazing Apprenticeships - Parent and carer zone focuses on apprenticeships.
